I hate hospitals. So much.

Okay, so, a few days ago I broke my arm and leg. While stepping outside to run to the store, I slipped and tumbled down the entire staircase, smacked my head really hard on my neighbor's door at the bottom, and then kind of blinked at my leg trying to figure out why it hurt so bad. So, anyway, my neighbors took me to the emergency room, called my brother and- yeah. I passed out. Not because of the pain, though I am sure that played a part in it, but because hospitals freak me out.
Anyway. I am now bored, immobile (moving around with crutches when you have a broken arm is not fun), and on strong painkillers. And bored.
Does anyone have any anime, manga, movie or book suggestions to keep me entertained?

Date: 2009-01-26 06:30 am (UTC)So I'm not good at books but her is a triology I just started. The first one is called Sabriel by Garth Nixn. Here is the summary for it.
Sent to a boarding school in Ancelstierre as a young child, Sabriel has had little experience with the random power of Free Magic or the Dead who refuse to stay dead in the Old Kingdom. But during her final semester, her father, the Abhorsen, goes missing, and Sabriel knows she must enter the Old Kingdom to find him. She soon finds companions in Mogget, a cat whose aloof manner barely conceals its malevolent spirit, and Touchstone, a young Charter Mage long imprisoned by magic, now free in body but still trapped by painful memories. As the three travel deep into the Old Kingdom, threats mount on all sides. And every step brings them closer to a battle that will pit them against the true forces of life and death -- and bring Sabriel face-to-face with her own hidden destiny. With Sabriel, the first installment in the Abhorsen trilogy, Garth Nix exploded onto the fantasy scene as a rising star, in a novel that takes readers to a world where the line between the living and the dead isn't always clear -- and sometimes disappears altogether.
That's all I've got.

Date: 2009-01-26 07:38 am (UTC)Seconding the rec for Sabriel. I actually think that book is a bit iffy, but the other two books in the trilogy (Lirael, and Abhorsen) are fantastic. Very much worth reading.
Movie wise, I saw The Fountain recently and recommend the shit out of it. There's some timeline wackiness in it, but it's so astonishingly beautiful and layered. Seriously amazing.

Date: 2009-01-26 03:13 pm (UTC)Well you can read the Vampire Knight manga online right here:

It's really absorbing so I bet it will help pass the time well. For anime, well if you are laid up for a while a nice long series is great... have you seen Hikaru no Go? That is terrific and not all that angsty or whatever (well comparatively anyway)... I used to have the episodes on my lappy and watch them in the airport and things. Also Genshiken is a terrific little anime, really funny and upbeat, makes fun of the otaku lifestyle... My sempai sent it to me when I was depressed once and it really made me laugh.
Have you seen Gankutsuou? That is amazing. Very angsty, but gah, so great. Also if you haven't seen the classics like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, or Trigun, those are all really good. Kenshin is awesome too although skip the 3rd season it sucked. Saiyuki? TOTALLY made of win. The manga is much better than the anime.
BTW was it your right arm and left leg? How Ed-like...! O_o Anyway get well soon honey!

Date: 2009-01-26 10:35 pm (UTC)I hate that this has happened to you. I know what it's like to be laid up with an injury but I can't imagine breaking an arm and a leg at the same time. good luck getting better and I hope you are not in the hospital for long.
I am reading a sci-fi series by L. Hamilton the first book is Guilty Pleasures.
If you are looking for manga yaoi I suggest the series Love Mode. ^_^
